Emory University Hospital

Emory University Hospital in Atlanta chose NBC to assist in construction of an addition to their Patient Tower and creation of a dynamic new two-story curved pedestrian bridge. The big challenge with this project was keeping the existing roof protected while full-scale construction was ensuing all around. With careful planning and execution, we were able to mitigate the damage that occurred to the existing roofs and minimize any inconvenience to the hospital operations.

A vapor barrier was installed on the bridge beneath the swing stage/monorail supports to provide temporary waterproofing during the construction period. As a permanent solution, a fully adhered white single-ply membrane was installed on tapered insulation to provide a reflective roof system with positive drainage. Along the way, custom expansion joints were constructed to accommodate the various roof slopes. We loved the technical and logistical challenges of this project; it demonstrates our unique ability to meet the budgetary, architectural and management needs of the most creative undertakings.
